Here is Tearni’s story…..
In September 2009 Tearni was the victim of a horrible accident that resulted in a deadly gun shot wound to the top of her skull. This wound landed her in critical condition and on life support. The prospect of recovery was grave. Doctors said she had a very slim chance of survival, let alone ever living a life without machine support.
The doctors had actually suggested terminating life support due to the extreme injury to her brain. The bullet entered the top of her skull and damaged most of the left side of her brain, which controls our motor functions. During the time after the accident it was believed Tearni would not make it, and she would leave behind her two year old son Jonas.
A group of friends were talking about what, if anything we could do? All of Tearni’s friends came together along with Children and the Earth, we set a date for the run. We called the event “Tears 4 Tearni” T4T for short. With only two weeks to plan and raise donations & funds we were crunched for resources! Heather Franc along with many others were able to get around 3k in prizes! The event drew over 70 riders and we raised over 6k in money for the cause. For only two weeks to get it together the turn out was amazing! Many great people came out to contribute in memory of Tearni and support her family & Jonas. It did turn into a wild celebration that Tearni would have appreciated!!
Over the next couple of months Tearni began to show brain activity, and by our Superbowl Sunday party she showed up in wheel chair to say hi. Considering the fate given to her by doctors this is nothing short of a miracle! Going from terminal patient, then returning back to the bright star she’s always been is a true gift! She can communicate, wheel herself around in her chair, and with some assistance she is walking! Tearni is a great example of hope, strength and self determination!
The T4T event is back, this time we called it “Together 4 Tearni” Tearni has come a long way, she makes improvements everyday! Although she has come so far, her rehab journey is far from over! She undergoes many hours of therapy weekly. Which we all know medical expenses are NOT cheap! Her road to recovery will be a long one, she will require years of treatment. She has experienced a miracle in healing, the one miracle she deserves to have, is one that she, nor her family has any control over; taking care of the rehab & medical expenses. That is why the T4T Poker Run is here; to raise money to assist in her treatment, to alleviate the stress that such burdens bring. And to get her back to 100% Tearni always was there for me, my wife and anyone who wanted a great person to be there. It’s time again to show up, and give back. Last time it was more for her family and son.
This time it’s all about Tearni!
